from design to to production, beauty is natural and talent can be learned. art may be understood and studied. the desired effect preordained. colors matched. moods changed. decisions influenced. loyalty won. great design may do all of this or none. psychology as much as visual stimulation plays it part. for all of this the final choice is always that of the patron, it is the designers job to know and influence the choice. will is free, but influence is earned.
